How We Fix Facebook Lead Quality: Our Lead Gen Playbook
Cheap leads that never answer the phone are a targeting-and-qualification problem, not a volume problem. This is the process we use to make Facebook lead generation produce leads a sales team actually wants.
About this playbook: this page describes the method we use to improve Facebook lead quality. It outlines our approach, not the results of any one client.
The symptom: lots of leads, few conversations
The cost per lead looks great in the dashboard, but sales says the leads don't answer, give wrong numbers or were never interested. It is one of the most common problems in Facebook lead generation, and it usually comes from optimising for the wrong thing: Meta is very good at finding people who fill in forms, which is not the same as people who buy.
Step 1: Define what a qualified lead means
Before changing any ad, agree with the sales team on what a good lead looks like: budget, location, timeline, the problem they need solved. Then we track cost per qualified lead and cost per booked call, not just cost per lead. Without this, every optimisation is judged on the wrong number.
Step 2: Add the right friction
Instant forms make it easy to submit, which invites low-intent submissions. We add friction on purpose where quality matters.
Use the higher intent form type with a review screen, so people confirm what they submit.
Add one or two qualifying questions, such as budget range or timeline.
Be honest in the ad about price and who the service is for, so the wrong people self-select out.
For high-value offers, send people to a landing page instead of an instant form.
Step 3: Feed quality back to Meta
By default Meta only knows that a form was submitted. We connect your CRM so it also learns which leads became qualified, booked a call or bought, using the Conversions API for CRM events. Over time the algorithm shifts toward the people who resemble your good leads rather than your cheapest ones.
Step 4: Win the first five minutes
Lead quality also depends on what happens after the form. Contact rates drop sharply as response time grows, so we help set up instant confirmation messages, automated follow-up and clear ownership of each lead so nothing sits unanswered.
Step 5: Test creative for intent, not clicks
Test messaging that filters (price, requirements, location) against messaging that only attracts.
Compare creative by cost per qualified lead, not by click-through rate.
Refresh creative regularly so frequency doesn't drag quality down.
What we measure
Cost per qualified lead and cost per booked call
Lead-to-call and call-to-sale rates by campaign and creative
Speed to first contact
Cost per acquisition, as the number that matters at the end
